A reported shooting at a house in the Dollarway area Saturday afternoon resulted in the arrest of a Pine Bluff man who was identified as the suspect.

Demario Douglas, 20, allegedly shot Davone Chapman in the lower right leg during an altercation, Deputy Prosecutors Maxie Kizer said during a hearing for Douglas in Jefferson County District Court Monday.

Detective Marsha Oliver reported that police were sent to 7 Needles Drive at 3:50 p.m., and when they arrived, found Chapman with the gunshot wound. Chapman told police Douglas had shot him, then left the scene.

Kizer said Douglas came back to the house at about 4:30 p.m., accompanied by his father, and was taken into custody.

Oliver reported that Douglas gave several different stories when asked where the weapon was, then asked for an attorney and the interview was terminated.

District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $25,000 bond for Douglas after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with first-degree battery. Bridgforth also ordered Douglas to have no contact with Chapman until the case is settled.

Douglas told the judge he would hire his own attorney.
