A Pine Bluff woman was in critical condition Thursday after suffering smoke inhalation in a fire at her home.

Daisy Evans, 62, was in the intensive care unit Thursday afternoon at Jefferson Regional Medical Center, said Lt. Harold Clark, Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services Department spokesman.

Firefighters were dispatched to 1601 Elm St. at about 10:45 a.m. Evans was inside the home when they arrived, Clark said.

“Firefighters were able to pull her out to safety and EASI transported her to the hospital,” Clark said.

Clark said the cause of the fire was still under investigation, but preliminary reports indicate that it was accidental and possibly electrical in nature.

No one else was injured in the fire.

“There was quite a bit of damage to the structure, extensive damage throughout the home,” Clark said.
