GOULD — Two men were shot Monday night in Gould and authorities have arrested one person and searching for another suspect.

Zavery Conrade Smith, 24, and Maraquanth Sullivan, age unavailable, were shot while walking near the intersection of Arkansas and Monroe streets on the east side of the town at approximately 7:36 p.m. Monday.

An official said Smith was shot in the hip and Sullivan was shot in the foot. Both were taken to Delta Memorial Hospital in Dumas by private vehicle Monday night.

A news release from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department said Terrance Taylor, 32, was booked into the Lincoln County jail on Tuesday on preliminary charges of six counts of aggravated assault and two counts of first-degree battery.

Witnesses said a black Pontiac pulled up and stopped where the two men were walking and two black males got out of the car and started shooting at Smith and Sullivan.

Deputies Bo Hudson and Kenneth Tillman responded to the scene and were later joined by Sheriff Larry McGee and Chief Deputy David Parker. Lt. Ken Davis responded to the hospital to interview the victims and potential witnesses.

The sheriff’s department then learned the names of two suspects and began a search leading to Taylor’s arrest.

“The second suspect is still at-large,” McGee said. “The investigation is continuing.”
