Star City High School students recently penned lions and tigers and bears and other wild animals to display for educational purposes.

Students in Roger Darren Highs art I classes at Star City High School created pen and ink drawings of wild animals as part of a drawing unit.

Each student worked from photographs of animals in order to create detailed drawings using a variety of pen and ink techniques including hatching, crosshatching, and stippling in order to render details and create a wide range of values.

The lesson helped students to understand how to draw animals from reference photographs, create value using pen and ink, and how to apply the elements of art in order to create artwork.

The pen and ink animal drawings created by the students will be on exhibit in the hallway at Star City High School.
