LITTLE ROCK Former state Sen. Bill Walters of Greenwood died Tuesday, the Senate announced.

LITTLE ROCK Former state Sen. Bill Walters of Greenwood died Tuesday, the Senate announced.

Walters died of pancreatic cancer. He was 69.

He was elected to the Senate as a Republican in 1982 and served 18 years. A lawyer, Walters also previously served as a Sebastian County deputy prosecutor, Greenwood city attorney and as municipal court judge in Charleston.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Walters, also a former legislator, and three grown children.
