BENTON — Alfred M. "Al" Morris, 81, of Benton, Ark., formerly of Pine Bluff, Ark., died Friday, July 27, 2012. He was born on January 31, 1931, in Grant County, Arkansas, to the late Ell and Martha Morris. He was a member of the North Bryant Missionary Baptist Church in Bryant, Arkansas. He was a long-time resident of Pine Bluff, Ark., where he worked as a agent for State Farm Insurance Company for 40 years. He was a member of First Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church in Pine Bluff where he taught Sunday School for 45 years. He served his community as a member of the Pine Bluff School Board, the Pine Bluff Electrical Board, the American Legion, the Pine Bluff Kiwanis Club, State Chairman for Boys State, and the Pine Bluff Chamber of Commerce. He served as an infantryman in the Korean Conflict and afterwards joined the Arkansas Army National Guard where he served as Unit Commander and later retired as major.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Flora Belle Whitaker, and his brother, J.R. Morris. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joyce Morris and three sons, Al Morris, Jr. of Stuttgart, Ark., Dan Morris of Waco, Texas, and Bradley Morris of Little Rock, Ark., two brothers, Bill Morris and Toney Morris, two sisters, Bernice Lackey and Francis Burks, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Monday, July 30, 2012 at Griffin Leggett Forest Hills Funeral Home, 10200 Hwy 5 N., Alexander, Arkansas. Graveside services will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Tuesday July 31 2012 at 3 p.m. with Pastor John Penn officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to the building fund of North Bryant Missionary Baptist Church, 2710 North Prickett Street, Bryant, Arkansas.
