Major Fred J. Puckett, Jr, U.S.A. (ret), 87, passed away in Pine Bluff, July 28, 2012. He was born to the late Fred and Ellen Nixon Puckett, March 11, 1925, in Rison, Ark. He served in Korea Vietnam, as a Master Explosive Ordinance Disposal with "V," Korean Service medal with 5 campaign stars, Vietnam Service Medal with 8 campaign stars. After retirement, he was a member of the American Legion, National Explosive Ordinance Disposal Association, and National Association of Atomic Veterans. He was a member of White Hall Church of Christ and served a chaplain for many of his military organizations. He is preceded in death by a wife, Frances Puckett.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel McMurtry Puckett of White Hall; son Jean-Francois (Anne) Puckett of Fayetteville; daughters Marie-Laurence (Victor) Pizelle of Peekskill, N.Y., and Frederique Dunham, of Valdosta, Ga.; stepsons, Melvin McMurtry, Kansas, Mo., Larry Woodcock, Lebanon, Mo., stepdaughters, Linda (Cliff) Williamson, Jackson, Mo., Gloria Smith, Memphis, Tenn., Virginia (Rusty) Browning, Sherwood, Ark., Theresa (William) Bunting, Crossett, Ark.; brother William (Bonnie Ree) Puckett, Rison, Ark.; sisters, Corinne Winston, Shirley (James) Dearman, both from Sheridan, Ark., and Bonnie (Joseph) Appling, Pine Bluff; 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Cranford Funeral Home with Clefton Vaughn officiating. Burial will be at Union Cemetary.
