James C. "Red" Bennett, Jr., 95, a resident of Pine Bluff, died Sunday, August 26, 2012, at his home.

James C. “Red” Bennett, Jr., 95, a resident of Pine Bluff, died Sunday, August 26, 2012, at his home.

Born October 23, 1916, in Lonoke County he was a son of the late James Clayton Bennett, Sr. and Jettie McKinney Bennett.

Mr. Bennett was reared and received his early education in Lonoke County. He moved to Pine Bluff in the early 1930’s and continued his education, graduating from Pine Bluff High School in 1937. He was a football and basketball player and earned an atheletic scholarship to Louisiana State University.

Mr. Bennett was a long-time employee of the Pine Bluff Sand and Gravel Company. He retired in 1982 as the plant superintendent. Mr. Bennett was a member of Central Presbyterian Church.

James Clayton Bennett, Jr. married Marie Tyler Sadler on May 18, 1990, in Little Rock.

Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Gussie B. Stone, Juanita B. Gibson, and Frances B. Cleveland.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Sadler Bennett of Pine Bluff; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Janet Bennett of Austin, Texas; daughter and son-in-law Bettye and Jimmy Johnson of Pine Bluff; two step-sons, Bill Sadler of Bossier City, La., and Bob Sadler (Debbie) of Little Rock; one sister, Helen B. Tiner of Sherwood; five grandchildren; six step-grandchildren.

The visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2012, in Memorial Park Cemetery with Dr. Dan Festa officiating and directed by Ralph Robinson & Son.

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude for the loving care given to Mr. Bennett by three caregivers, Roxanne Melgarego, Joann Jenkins, and Sherryl Taylor.
