Mrs. Lucille Thomas Montgomery, age 102, of Pine Bluff, passed to her heavenly home on Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Whispering Knoll Assisted Living Facility.

Mrs. Lucille Thomas Montgomery, age 102, of Pine Bluff, passed to her heavenly home on Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Whispering Knoll Assisted Living Facility.

She was born October 3, 1910, in Roe (Monroe County) Ark., the daughter of the late George Wilborn and Lallie Harrell Thomas.

Lucille attended school in Roe and at age 10 joined the Roe Methodist Church. In 1941, she and her family moved to Pine Bluff, Ark. At that time, she transferred her letter of membership to Carr Memorial United Methodist Church, now Good Faith/ Carr Methodist Church. She was a member of the Leona Clark Bible Class for 54 years, a charter member of the Golden fellowship, a member of the United Methodist Women (UMW), and an honoree with lifetime membership of the UMW.

Lucille was employed at Nevada Manufacturing for 24 years. After retirement, she worked as a seamstress in her home.

Lucille loved to spend time visiting and traveling with family. She also enjoyed cooking and gardening. She always had an extra plant for a friend and a handful of homemade chocolate chip cookies for the grandkids.

She spent the last seven years living at Whispering Knolls Assisted Living Facility at Pine Bluff. In 2008, she was crowned “fairest of the fair” at the Queens Pageant.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lallie Thomas, brother, A. D. Thomas, sisters, Berna Lee Boblett and Annie Mae Snell, grand-daughters, Rachel Ray and Montgomery infant twins and her biggest fan, daughter-in-law, Betty Wadsworth Montgomery.

Survivors include her children, Elton Mack “Monty” Montgomery (Tommye Anne), Thomas Oliver Montgomery (Harriett), Freda Beth Council (Don) and Wilma Jean Mitchell; eight grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, three great great-grandchildren, a sister, and well as, church family and many friends.

Services will be held 11:00 a.m., May 31, 2013, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son, with Reverend Mary Susan Hilliard and Reverend Mike Wilkie officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m Thursday evening at Robinson’s. Pallbearer’s will be great grandsons.

The family would like to express their heart felt appreciation to Whispering Knoll staff and caregivers for the care, love, and support that was shown to Lucille over the last seven years. The support and comfort they provided to Lucille will forever be remembered by her family and friends. The family would like to say thank you to Rose Garrett for being an amazing friend and caregiver. Special thanks to Arkansas Hospice for providing amazing care and support.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in Lucille Thomas Montgomery’s memory to Whispering Knolls Assisted Living Facility to maintain the courtyard, in which she spent many hours enjoying its beauty.
