INGLEWOOD, Calif. Nanette E. Coggs died on August 12, 2013 in Inglewood, Calif. Born on July 10, 1921, in Pine Bluff, Ark., to Tandy Washington Coggs and Nannie Elma Hinkle, she attended Arkansas Baptist College (where her father was president from 1937-1955), earned a B.S. degree from Arkansas AM&N (now UAPB) and a degree in Medical Technology from Meharry Medical School. She worked for many years at Drake Middle School, Chicago, Ill., in Special Education and also at Michael Reese Hospital as a Laboratory Technician. She moved to Los Angeles, Calif., in 1986 after retiring, to care for her father, who was also the first Superintendent of the Negro Boys Industrial Schools located in Pine Bluff and Wrightsville, Ark.

She was an active member of several alumni associations: Arkansas Baptist College, UAPB/AM&N- Chicago and Southern California Chapters, often returning to Arkansas for homecoming events.

Preceded in death by her brothers, Dr. Louis Hinkle Coggs and Rev. Tandy Washington Coggs, Jr., she is survived by her sister, Ms. Eloise Anita Coggs, Inglewood, Calif., Brother Dr. Granville Coleridge Coggs, San Antonio, Texas., nieces and nephews Anne Coggs Smith (Don), Chicago, Ill., Alma Coggs smith, District Heights, Md., Harriette Coggs Stuckey (Sterling), Riverside, Calif., Louise Hinkle Coggs, II, Inglewood, Calif., Janet Coggs Echols (Aubrey), Los Angeles, Calif., Tandy Washington Coggs, III (Michele), San Pedro, Calif., Anita Coggs Rowell (Joseph), Santa Rosa, Calif., Carolyn Coggs, Oakland, Calif., and a host of grand- and great-grand-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral Services are scheduled for Wednesday, September 4, 2013, 11 a.m. St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 1404 S. Georgia St., Pine Bluff, Ark., Interment: P.K. Miller Cemetery, 2122 W. Pullen St. Pine Bluff. Services are entrusted to the Perry Funeral Home, 1401 W. 2nd Ave., Pine Bluff, Ark., (870) 535-2131.
