Arthur D. Yates, Jr., 84, of Pine Bluff, died Monday, April 30, 2012.

Born July 19, 1927 at Hope, he was a son of the late Arthur D. Yates, Sr. and Bertha Mae Peyton Yates. He was a United States Navy World War II veteran, having served in the Asiatic-Pacific theatre, most notably off the shores of Iwa Jima as a medic on the USS Darke 159.

Mr. Yates was employed in the security field for the majority of his working career, retiring in 1993 from Tyson foods after 18 years of service.

In addition to his parents, He was preceded in death by a son, A. David Yates, III; six brothers, Curtis, Billy, Roy, Coy, Paul and Herbert; and four sisters, Lois May, Louise, Dorothy, and Jeanette.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Laree Swindle Yates; a son, Mike Yates (Patti) of White Hall; daughters, Fran Runde (Dan) of Columbia, Tenn., Barbara Yates of Woodlawn, and Ginger Richey (Steve) of Marmaduke; a sister, Jean Henderson of Lamar; 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and many other loving family and friends.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, at Fuller Hale-South Funeral Chapel.

Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors.

Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
