Dora Ellen VonTungeln, 86, a lifetime resident of Pine Bluff, passed away Friday, May 25, 2012.

Born October 29, 1925, in Pine Bluff, she was a daughter of the late Walter Duncan Fowler, Sr. and Coralie Walt Bogy Fowler. She was reared and received her education in Pine Bluff attending Pine Bluff High School.

In 1942, she married Ralph Curtis. Together they started a family and she became a homemaker. He passed away while serving in World War II.

After the death of her first husband, she met William Dale VonTungeln and in 1950 they were married. They spent many years together until he passed away in 1980. She spent her time caring for her children, and family, making a home for them. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, even opening her home to her grandson, Bubba VonTungeln and taking care of him from a young age.

Mrs. VonTungeln loved to cook and was famous for her family dinners and coco pies all made “from scratch”. She enjoyed passing down her cooking talents and teaching her grandchildren about cooking from scratch.

She was a 34 year breast cancer survivor and during that time was a member of the Friends breast cancer support and survivor group.

She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church of Pine Bluff. When Belair Presbyterian Church was formed she was a charter member. She attended Belair Presbyterian until they merged with Central Presbyterian Church becoming a member there.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; one brother, Walter Duncan Fowler, Jr.; an infant son, James Walter Curtis and one grandson, Jonathan Lee Hardin.

She is survived by her four children, Ralph W. Curtis and wife, Patricia, of Tucson, Ariz., Rebecca Elliott and husband, Roy, of Pine Bluff, William Dale VonTungeln, Jr. and Susan C. Hardin, both of Pine Bluff; her nine grandchildren, Melissa Ellen Somoza and husband, Jorge, Jennifer Renee Gaw and husband, Joseph, Ralph Dudley Curtis, Heather Michelle Sheik and husband Wajid, Brian Christopher Elliott, William Dale “Bubba” VonTungeln, III, Matthew Braden VonTungeln, Ashley Brianne Cheek and husband, Justin and Ryan William Hardin and wife, Casey; her six great grandchildren; her two sisters, Sybil Coker and Dorothy Coker, both of Pine Bluff; and her friend and caregiver, Beatrice Curry, who cared for Mrs. Dora in her later years; and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at Central Presbyterian Church by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening 6–8 p.m. at Robinson’s. Friends may sign the online register at
