ALEXANDRIA, La. Doyle Lavender , age 80, of Alexandria, La., formerly of Pine Bluff, died Tuesday, February 28, 2012.

He was born February 10, 1932 at Dumas, a son of the late Millard Lavender and Evena Mae Carrington Lavender, and spent his early childhood at Rohwer. He graduated from Desha Central High School in 1950, and served in the United States Army.

A resident of Pine Bluff from 1955-2005, Doyle worked for International Paper Company for 35 years, and retired in 1994. When first employed by IP, the company was building Rosswood Country Club, and he helped plant the pine seedlings on the property.

Doyle was a Baptist, a member of the Quarter Century Club, and enjoyed hunting fishing, and camping on Lake Ouachita. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he was an avid fan of whatever activity or sport his grandchildren were involved in.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by infant twin sons.

His survivors include his wife, Rosa Plunkett Lavender, whom he married on January 15, 1955 in Blytheville, AR; his daughter, Alisa Lavender Secrest and husband Terry; his grandchildren, Bradley Secrest and Catherine Secrest; a brother, Huey Lavender; and his sisters, Mary Offutt and Bernice Shaha.

Funeral services will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m. at Fuller Hale-South Funeral Chapel with Dr. B. David Brooks officiating. Private interment will be in Holly Springs Cemetery in Lincoln County.

Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
