SHERRILL Funeral services for Freddie J. Nelson, 92, of Sherrill, died March 23, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 31, at New Hope African Methodist Episcopal Church, Rev. Dr. Hazel Linton pastor.

SHERRILL Funeral services for Freddie J. Nelson, 92, of Sherrill, died March 23, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 31, at New Hope African Methodist Episcopal Church, Rev. Dr. Hazel Linton pastor.

He was born November 9, 1919 in Hooker (Ladd) community, Pine Bluff, son of the late James and Fannie Brooks Nelson.

He graduated from J.C. Corbin High School in Pine Bluff. He attended Agricultural Mechanical and Norman College, now University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

In 1942, he moved to Detroit, Mich., and enlisted in the United States Army. He served as company supply sergeant during World War II. He received several decorations, Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater, ribbon one bronzebatter star and American Theater ribbon for good conduct. He received a honorable discharge in 1945 at the rank of staff Sergeant.

He obtained certification as a bricklayer. He worked for many years as a masonry contractor, member of the bricklayers, mason, Plasters International Union of America. He retired from the Arkansas Department of Corrections as a bricklayer instructor.

He had a long-standing membership in the Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elk of the World, William Townsend lodge, many years of services to the Wabbaseka School Board and FHA commissioner.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Willie, L.E. and Leonard.

Survivors include his wife of twelve years, Annette Brown Nelson, Sherrill; daughter, Dr. Angela L. Brown, St. Louis, Mo.; granddaughter, Alexandra T. Mitchell, St. Louis, Mo.; sister, Priscilla Edmond, Pine Bluff; three brothers, Griffin Andrew Nelson of Flint, Mich., Earlean (Georgia) Nelson of Youngstown, Ohio, Robert (Ora) Nelson of Pine Bluff; aunt, Emma Picken of Pine Bluff; nieces, nephews, cousins.

Visitation may be made from 6-7 p.m. Friday at Perry Funeral Home.

Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery in Sherrill, Perry Funeral Home.
