Helen McKinzie Rhodes, 90, a resident of Pine Bluff, died Tuesday, June 26, 2012, in the Hospice Home Care unit at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

Helen McKinzie Rhodes, 90, a resident of Pine Bluff, died Tuesday, June 26, 2012, in the Hospice Home Care unit at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

Born June 2, 1922, in Kingsland, she was a daughter of William Wesley and Lola Lee Vanetti McKinzie.

Mrs. Rhodes was reared and received her early education in Kingsland, graduating from Kingsland High School in 1940. She moved to Pine Bluff in 1942. Helen McKinzie married Robert Rhodes on September 4, 1942, in Pine Bluff. Mrs. Rhodes was a homemaker and a retired beautician.

At the age of 10 she began singing gospel music in her fatherís choir at church. She enjoyed singing for many years and did volunteer singing at four area nursing homes. Mrs. Rhodes was a member of Watson Chapel Baptist Church.

Mrs. Rhodes was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Herman and Clarence McKinzie; two sisters, Hazel Keys, and Ruth Tichnor; her step-mother, Ruby Tipton McKinzie.

Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Robert Rhodes of Pine Bluff; two sons, Wayne Rhodes (Joyce) of Pine Bluff, and Larry Rhodes (Melody) of Greenwood; three grandchildren; Clayton Rhodes (Kristen) of Spring, Texas, Shannon Rhodes of Dallas, Texas, Ashley Harry (Michael) of Greenwood; four great-grandchildren Sawyer and Jude Harry of Greenwood, Zoe Spencer-Rhodes of Dallas, and Jesse Hunter Rhodes of Spring, Texas.

The visitation will be from 6:00-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.

Funeral services at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2012, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson with Rev. Todd Howard, Rev. Steve Monk, and Rev. M. L. Faler officiating. Burial will follow in Bellwood Annex Cemetery by Ralph Robinson & Son.
