Jo Ann Kemp, age 79 of Pine Bluff, died Wednesday, March 21, 2012.

She was born April 14, 1932 at Earth, Texas, a daughter of the late Elvis Orbany Bethel and Clara Nell Walker Bethel. She was reared and educated at Corpus Christi, Texas.

Jo Ann worked for the Arkansas Health Department as a Family Planning Clerk, and retired in January of 1999 after 27 years of service. Jo Ann also worked for Texas A&M College Press for a few years right after she was married.

A resident of Pine Bluff since 1971, Jo Ann was an active member of Good Faith Carr United Methodist Church where she served on numerous committees over the years including Chairman of Busy Beavers, active in Sunday School, leader of Intercessory Prayer Group, Office Angel, and active in Christian Women.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother Bill Bethel and a sister, Betty Bethel.

Jo Ann’s survivors include her husband of 60 years, Robert L. “Bob” Kemp, whom she married on August 25, 1951 at Corpus Christi, Texas;

her children, David Kemp and wife Trenna of Hot Springs, Tom Kemp and wife Vivian of Pine Bluff, and Donna Kemp O’Neal and husband Cotton of Haughton, La.; and her grandchildren, Christopher Kemp and wife Brittany of North Little Rock, Jason Ross of Hope, Matthew Ross of Stamps, and Cody, Ryan and Dylan Kemp of Pine Bluff; her two step-grandchildren Matthew O’Neal of Shreveport and Sarah O’Neal of Haughton; and one great-granddaughter Emerie Grace Ross of Hope.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Fuller Hale-South Funeral Chapel with Reverend Mike Wilkie officiating. Interment will be in Fitzhugh Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
