Thomas E. Young, 84, of Pine Bluff, died Tuesday, February 28, 2012.

He was born February 3, 1928 in Stuttgart, son of George W. and Lola Creecy Young.

Tom was an accomplished trumpet player. His wife, the former Mary Faith Robinson, first saw and fell in love with Tom when she heard him play in the jazz dance ensemble at the University of Arkansas at Monticello. “I think you are real cute” Mary said. It was love at first sight!

They married June 1, 1951 and moved to Michigan, where Tom taught music and became a band director at South Lyon, Michigan. His band earned many regional and national awards.

After retirement, Tom and Mary moved to Pine Bluff to be close to their families and Tom wanted year round golfing weather. He soon became a regular golfer at Rosswood Country Club and, later, at Harbor Oaks.

Tom was always a regular at Anne’s Cafe. After losing his wife, Mary, Anne’s became a second home for Tom.

Both Tom and Mary had a deep love and compassion for animals. They supported the Jefferson County Humane Society. When their daughter, Karen, grew up and left home, their dogs, Susie and Big Boy became their beloved children!

A memorial service will be 2:00 PM, Sunday, March 4, 2012 at Good Faith Carr United Methodist Church with Reverend Mike Wilkie officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Jefferson County Humane Society, PO. Box 2233, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71613.
