WHITE HALL — Robert E. "Pappy" Casteel, 86, of White Hall, went to heaven peacefully Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his family and friends.

WHITE HALL — Robert E. “Pappy” Casteel, 86, of White Hall, went to heaven peacefully Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his family and friends.

Born February 17, 1926, in Horatio, Ark., he was a son of the late Bert and Maggie Mobbs Casteel. He was reared and received his early education in Texas.

In April of 1944, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was a Rifle Marksman, serving in World War II, seeing action in the Pacific Theater, including Okinawa, Ryukyus Islands and the Occupation of Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1946, receiving twelve metals including the Purple Heart.

Mr. Casteel worked for several years for the Dr. Pepper Bottling Company as a Manager. At the time of his retirement he was a Supervisor at Stant Corporation.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Opal Cannon Casteel, his sisters, Essie Mae Casteel, Essa Rae Casteel and Juanita Parker, his brother J.R. Casteel and a son-in-law, Kit Perry.

Survivors include his daughters, Barbara Heflin, of White Hall and Rita Perry of Virginia Beach; his grandchildren, Erica Heflin, Genie Sanders, Taira McKinney-Selko, Cheyenne Riggs, Christi Perry and Stephanie Johnson; his great grandchildren, Karen Sanders, Keven Riggs, Christian Riggs and Deegan Johnson, one brother, R.G. Casteel, of Ohio and one sister, Birdie Lee Jenkins of Texas.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the nurses and staff of Hospice Home Care for their kindness and dedication to Pappy.

A graveside service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 29, 2012 in Memorial Park Cemetery with Reverend Bobby Matthews and Reverend John Brown by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.
