William Ira Brake, Jr., age 89, of Pine Bluff, died Monday, November 14, 2011, at Trinity Medical Center.

William Ira Brake, Jr., age 89, of Pine Bluff, died Monday, November 14, 2011, at Trinity Medical Center.

He was born in Pine Bluff to Bertie and William I. Brake Sr. Mr. Brake graduated from Watson Chapel High School in 1941 then started work for Western Electric. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. After almost 40 years of service at Western Electric, he retired in 1980.

Mr. Brake was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church for much of his life and most recently a member of Watson Chapel Baptist Church. He was married to Lena Brake, deceased, for 61 years.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda Blackwell (Ronald) of Houston, Texas, Carole Launius (Arville) of Pine Bluff, and Bonnie Plikaytis (Brian) of Tucker, Ga.; two sons, William “Bill” Brake (Kim) Florence, Miss. and David Brake (Karen) West Columbia, Texas; six grandchildren, Richard Launius, Bonnie Finnigan, William “Billy” Brake, Shelley Brake, Jacey Brake, and Jennifer Bridges; and two great-grandchildren, Alicia and Amanda Finnigan.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2011 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Rev. Steve Monk officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at Robinson’s.
