Editor and Fellow Citizens

I moved back “home” in March after 30 years of living out of state and out of town. I am shocked, saddened, and outraged at the condition of our fair city.

The litter problem is overwhelming, disgusting and unnecessary. I challenge everyone to step outside their front door; at home and place of business, and look slowly to the left, then slowly to the right. Make it your responsibility to pick up any trash in your line of vision. If everyone would do this we could rapidly restore the “Pride of Pine Bluff” and welcome any visitors, tourist, and new business to “Positively Pine Bluff.”

I am not suggesting something I’m not willing to do myself. I walk around our downtown area regularly and pick up litter. I realized a couple of years ago that if it bothered me that bad I should pick it up.

Obviously, it was not bothering anyone else as badly or it wouldn’t be there. I’m asking each of you to be responsible for “your side of the street” while I’m working hard to clean up mine.

I want to be proud of my hometown and I’m certain I’m not alone in that sentiment. Thank you for your time.
