Editor, The Commercial:

The First United Methodist Church (FUMC) Family would like to give a “thumbs up” to the Athletic Department of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff for partnering with us once again by providing twenty-three bell ringers at Penney’s and Brookshire’s last week and this week. Because of your love for our community, many who are in need will be blessed through our Salvation Army.

Your diligence and willingness to brave the elements with smiles on your faces in order to raise money for those who are less fortunate brought joy to our hearts. Those who have not had the opportunity to ring the bell may not be aware of the significance of this ministry. The funds raised make it possible for families to receive gifts during the holidays, meals all year long, help with utilities, clothing and other household items at minimal cost, and lodging throughout the year at our Salvation Army Community Center, Thrift Store, and Emergency Shelter.

Our hearts are full of joy as we work together with the University, local agencies, and institutions to improve life for all of the citizens of Pine Bluff and surrounding areas.

The reason for this season is to come together as community to welcome the love of Jesus into our hearts anew and to share the love of Jesus with others, so that we can all experience the blessings of shalom.

We are grateful to the staff of the UAPB Athletics Department for helping us with such a significant endeavor and we pray that your holiday be filled with the joy you have given away during this wonderful season.
