Service errors and swings of momentum played a role in White Hall’s 3-1 loss to Arkadelphia on Tuesday.
The Lady Bulldogs (3-2) came off to a slow start in the first set allowing a service ace on the third play of the set. As the set went on, the Lady Bulldogs began to build momentum as senior Hailey Wilkins and junior Zoe Brown, both middle blockers, led a defense campaign with a block a piece. Shortly thereafter, senior outside hitter Alexis Winston scored a kill off an assist from junior middle blocker Summer Henderson. However service errors from White Hall resulted in Arkadelphia winning the first set 25-16.
“I’m proud of my team’s effort,” White Hall coach Steven Powell said. “We played a good team and played big at the net.”
Both teams played tight during the second set. Brown, Henderson and Wilkins each had a kill a piece to help a back and forth match tie up at 22. As Arkadelphia then hit the net on their next two serves, a clutch kill scored by senior outside hitter JaeLisa Allen won the set for the Bulldogs 25-22.
For the final two sets, the shift of momentum was on Arkadelphia’s side as the Lady Badgers were able to score efficiently. Arkadelphia kept up a strong defensive effort winning the third set 25-9. The Lady Badgers then capitalized off the Lady Bulldogs’ mistakes and service errors winning the fourth and final set by a score of 25-12.
White Hall will host Camden Fairview at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
