MAGNOLIA — Southwest Christian Academy of Little Rock held off a late charge by Ridgway Christian School to win the Arkansas Association of Christian Schools’ junior high boys state basketball championship, 50-46, Saturday.

This was the first time Ridgway (11-2) played for the junior boys title. A year ago, the Pine Bluff school’s senior high girls team finished second to Life Way Christian of Centerton.

Darrion Evans and Maleek Ware each scored 15 points to lead Ridgway, but the Eagles trailed the entire game. Southwest was ahead 27-18 and built a 36-24 cushion going into the final 6 minutes before Ridgway chipped away at the margin.

Ezra Tole added seven points and Jacob Andersen had six for Ridgway.

The game was one of four state championships held at Columbia Christian School. Southwest won the junior high girls title, Life Way repeated as high school girls champs with a 44-29 win over Columbia, and Life Way ended Gospel Light’s six-year title reign in high school boys with a 70-52 victory over the Hot Springs team. Gospel Light beat St. Joseph of Pine Bluff last year.
