MAUMELLE — Facing a 22-point halftime hole, the Star City boys basketball team rallied in the second half and closed to as few as seven before falling 59-50 to Conway on Monday in the Santa Slam.

The Bulldogs faced a 36-14 deficit at halftime and used a 19-10 third-quarter advantage to climb back into the game. But 4A Star City ran out of time for a comeback and eventually fell to the 7A Wampus Cats.

Jemiel Thompson led the Bulldogs with 19 points and Damar Reed added 13.

Today, Star City faces Lonoke at 2:30 p.m. in the tournament.

GIRLS

Star City 56, Clarksville 24

MAUMELLE — The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 42-7 halftime lead and coasted to a 10-1 record on the season. Tyeshia Harris led Star City with 10 points and was the only player in double-figure scoring.

At 4 p.m. today, Star City faces Little Rock Christian in continued action at the Santa Slam tournament.

JUNIOR HIGH BOYS

Watson Chapel 60, Dumas 39

ALTHEIMER — Four players reached double-digit scoring, as the Wildcats improved to 6-7 on the season. Kyran Thomas led Watson Chapel with 18 points, as Datreon Lindsey (12 points), Leonard Robinson (11) and Jaylen Peterson (10) also reached double-digit scoring marks.

The Wildcats used a 19-6 advantage in the second quarter to seize control of the game.

Watson Chapel will not play again until a Jan. 2 trip to Bauxite.

Jack Robey 48, Marianna 24

ALTHEIMER — The Colts left the James Liddell Classic with a 3-0 record and are now 11-2 on the season. Marcus Thomas led Jack Robey against Marianna with 17 points, as Ladarius Skelton and David Beasley added six each.

Dollarway def. Warren, Monticello

ALTHEIMER — The Cardinals swept their games on the last day of the James Liddell Classic, improving to 7-5.

Against Warren, Travon King had 12 points in each game, both of which led Dollarway in a 36-25 victory. Against Monticello, Cameron Girley added nine in a 40-29 win.

Next for Dollarway is a 5:30 p.m. Jan. 3 game at Fordyce.

Making the boys all-tournament were McGehee’s Evander Bailey, Warren’s Darveon Brown, Dollarway’s King, Jack Robey’s Thomas, Marianna’s Tyrone Sims and Watson Chapel’s Robinson.

JUNIOR HIGH GIRLS

ALTHEIMER — The Lady Wildcats improved to 6-4 with the win. Lauren McCullough led Watson Chapel with 10 points, as Jahogany Murry added eight.

Watson Chapel will not play again until a Jan. 2 trip to Bauxite, with eighth-grade girls starting action at 4:30 p.m.

Jack Robey 40, Marianna 12

ALTHEIMER — The Fillies were led by Kyé Richardson, who had 12 points. No further information was available.

Dollarway loses two

ALTHEIMER — The Lady Cardinals fell to 5-8 by losing both of their games Monday, 47-30 to Warren and 39-18 to Monticello.

Warren was led by Shamiqua Pickett’s 30 points. No statistics were available from the game against Monticello.

Making the girls all-tournament team were McGehee’s Shakyla Begnaud, Warren’s Pickett, Dollarway’s Candra Hayes, Jack Robey’s Richardson, Marianna’s Applalonia Jones, Watson Chapel’s Megan Moore and Monticello’s Tanequa Bolden.
