Valley hires Potts as head coach

ITTA BENA, Miss. — Chico Potts has been named head men’s basketball coach at Mississippi Valley State, ending a search that involved Arkansas-Pine Bluff coach and Valley graduate George Ivory.

Potts was promoted to interim coach when Sean Woods left Valley for Morehead State. He played at LSU and Delta State (Miss.), then spent four years coaching high school basketball before joining the staff at Delta State and moving to Valley in 2008.

Ivory was a finalist for the position, but pulled his name out of consideration earlier this month.

Valley also hired Elvis Robinson as women’s basketball head coach, replacing current UAPB head man Nate Kilbert.
