STAR CITY — Star City opened the 2012 baseball season with a 15-0 blowout of Norphlet on Tuesday.

STAR CITY — Star City opened the 2012 baseball season with a 15-0 blowout of Norphlet on Tuesday.

Austin White recorded the win on the mound in the three-inning, mercy rule-shortened affair. White struck out four, surrendered three hits and did not walk a batter.

The Bulldogs took advantage of five walked batters from Norphlet pitching, scoring eight runs in the opening frame and seven in the second.

Dagan Levengood paced the Dogs at the plate with two doubles, Jake Carr had two singles and Slade Hawkins tallied a single and drove in a pair.

Star City continues its season at Junction City at 4:30 p.m. Thursday before returning home to take on Pine Bluff at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Lake Hamilton 4, Watson Chapel 0

Watson Chapel was limited to three hits in a loss to Lake Hamilton in the season opener for the Wildcats.

Reece Huffty doubled and Zach Bradford and Wyatt Jones each singled for Watson Chapel.

Justin Dardenne started on the mound for the Wildcats, going four innings and giving up one earned run. Bradford came on in relief and surrendered an earned run in the final three frames.

Watson Chapel’s next game is at home at 5 p.m. Friday against Bryant. The Wildcats’ Murphy Jones Complex, the team’s fieldhouse, will be dedicated before the game.

Woodlawn 6, Smackover 1

SMACKOVER — Trey Hankins broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning with a leadoff solo home run as Woodlawn improved to 2-0 with the win.

Daniel Rissenger added a two-RBI double later in the frame and Jacob Richardson had an RBI single in the seventh. Hankins stole home standing up for the game’s final run in the seventh.

Hankins started the game on the mound and went four innings, fanning nine and walking two. Dillon Miller (1-0) picked up the win in relief. Miller went 1 2/3 inings and struck out three. Richardson finished on the hill with 1 1/3 innings of work. He fanned three.

Woodlawn will play its first home game at 4:30 p.m. Thursday against Benton Harmony Grove.

Warren 6, Hermitage 4

MONTICELLO — Warren broke a 4-4 deadlock in the top of the fifth ininng with a pair of runs to down Hermitage in the Southeast Arkansas Slugfest at Drew Central High School. The schedule was changed because of some schools’ involvement in the state basketball playoffs.

Drake Jones picked up the complete-game win. Jones struck out six and surrendered five walks and three hits.

Logan Adams, Blake Gorman, Randy Gorman and Wesley Cornish each had singles in the scheduled five-inning affair.


White Hall 4, Malvern 0

WHITE HALL — Jordan Lawson netted two goals and Tommy Townsend and Ruben Zamora each scored as White Hall blanked Malvern in a season opener.

Townsend scored the game’s first goal at the 8:00 mark off an entry pass from Ben Malone. Lawson’s initial goal came at the 38:00 mark from 15-yards out and was assisted by Kinzie Kight.

Zamora netted a penalty kick 17 minutes into the second half and Lawson scored unassisted from 10 yards out in the 31st minute.

Defensemen Sharief Shelton and Garrett Griffith held Malvern to just three shots on goal, all rejected by goalie Cody Jones.

Sheridan 3, Warren 0

WARREN — Carlos Perez scored twice and Michael Parker added a goal as Sheridan blanked Warren in its first soccer game of the season.

The Yellowjackets led 2-0 at the half. Tad Davis recorded the shutout at goalie.


Sheridan 4, Warren 0

WARREN — Wynn Welch recorded a hat trick for the Lady Jackets with two goals in the first half and one in the second.

Megan Moore added a goal as Sheridan won its first game of the year. Sheridan will play at White Hall on Thursday.
