PRESCOTT — Damarius Thomas drove to the basket for a game-winning layup with 3 seconds to go, as Drew Central eliminated Lafayette County 61-60 from the 3A Region 4 tournament Thursday night.

Lafayette County had just taken the lead with 9.2 seconds left before the Pirates worked the ball to Thomas, who finished with eight points. The Cougars attempted a half-court shot before the buzzer, but it was no good.

Dominique Rhodes led the Pirates with 22 points. Kashawn Powell followed with 15 and Jerelle Binns had 11.

Drew Central will play Fordyce for the fourth time this season at 8:30 tonight in the semifinal round. Fordyce has won all three matchups.

GIRLS

Dumas 69, Nashville 58

DUMAS — The Lady Cats (18-8) broke open a game that was tied at 43 going into the fourth quarter of a 4A South Regional game.

Shabr’an Richardson led Dumas with 27 points, Mona’ Mitchell added 25 and A’Diamond Johnson contributed 10. The Lady Cats shot 21 free throws in the second half.

Nashville was led by Monisa Poole’s 23 points and Kassidy Snowdon’s 17.

Dumas will play Pulaski Academy at 4 p.m. today.

Fordyce 38, Centerpoint 30

PRESCOTT — Freshman Lacie Hulse accounted for 20 points Thursday as the Lady Bugs (21-7) knocked out the Lady Knights in a 3A Region 4 quarterfinal.

The victory put Fordyce in today’s semifinal against host team Prescott. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
