TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — For the second straight day, Arkansas-Pine Bluff was shut out as Alabama beat the Golden Lions 7-0 Saturday.

UAPB (0-6), which was held to three hits in Friday’s 14-0 loss, managed just four in Saturday’s contest. Alabama (2-3) got on the board in the third inning with three runs and added two more in the fifth and eighth innings.

Stanten Jones started the game for UAPB and struggled with his command. He walked eight batters in three innings and gave up three runs on three hits and struck out two batters. He also had one wild pitch, one balk and one hit batter in 88 pitches.

Vince Newton pitched the final five innings of relief for UAPB and gave up four runs on six hits, walked one and struck out one.

Tyler Hill had two of UAPB’s four hits. Sean Samsa and Jacob Whitney each had a hit for the Golden Lions. Four of UAPB’s first six batters were retired on strike outs. The Golden Lions did not have a batter reach base until the fourth inning when Hill singled to right-center field.

For Alabama, Jared Reeves and Jon Kelton each had two RBIs. Charley Sullivan went six innings in the win and struck out five batters and gave up two hits.

The two teams will conclude the three-game series at 1:05 today. Watson Chapel graduate Michael Newby, who was originally scheduled to start Saturday, gets the nod today.
