PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas — Prairie View A&M completed the three-game series sweep over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday afternoon with a 9-6 win, taking first place in the SWAC West Division.

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas — Prairie View A&M completed the three-game series sweep over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday afternoon with a 9-6 win, taking first place in the SWAC West Division.

Both teams had a strong day hitting, however. Prairie View (14-8, 7-1 SWAC) barely outhit UAPB (3-21-1, 2-7) 11-10. Tyler Hill went 3 for 5 with three RBIs to lead UAPB. Christian Weeber went 2 for 3 with two solo home runs and three runs scored, and Soloman Williams hit 2 for 5.

Stanten Jones (0-3) struggled on the mound for the Golden Lions, giving up six walks and four earned runs on four hits in two innings. Vincent Newton scattered four earned runs and six hits over 5 1/3 innings, with Elliot Jackson allowing one hit in two-thirds of an inning.

UAPB made a late rally in the ninth with three runs. James Boulware, who was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, scored on a sacrifice grounder. That brought up Weeber, who hit his second homer. Hill singled to score Williams, who had doubled. Two were left on base when Cody DeMera grounded out for the final out.

Weeber also went deep in the first inning to open the scoring. The Panthers tied it in the bottom of the inning and answered Hill’s two-run single in the third with four runs that inning to takethe lead.

Prairie View scored three more runs in the seventh and one in the eighth.

With room to work with, Panthers pitcher Stef Hernandez (2-1) was able to go six innings, giving up three runs, all earned, and four.

Also for the Panthers, Brad Benes went 2-for-4 with a run scored, and Andre Oliver went 2-for-5 with one run scored. Catcher Evan Richard batted 1-for-2 with two runs scored, an RBI and three walks.

UAPB will play at Arkansas State on Wednesday night.
