Boll Weevils earn fifth straight win

MONTICELLO — Arkansas-Monticello won its fifth-straight men’s basketball game Saturday, defeating Great American Conference leader Harding 78-61.

UAM (16-8, 11-7 GAC) now is in a two-way tie for second place with Harding and has its hopes for a GAC regular-season championship kept alive.

UAM shot 53 percent from the field (29 of 55), 39 percent from three-point range (7 of 18) and 87 percent in free throws (13 of 15).

Kori Forge scored 27 points, shooting 8 for 7 from the field including six threes. He is seven points away from reaching 1,000 for his career with two regular-season games remaining.

Jamal Nixon and Dayton Mickens each added 14 points for UAM.

Hot-shooting Lady Bisons cool off Cotton Blossoms

MONTICELLO — Harding made 10 three-pointers and shot 50 percent from the field Saturday in a 74-63 win over Arkansas-Monticello in the Cotton Blossoms’ last home game.

Candace Virgadamo, playing her final game as a Cotton Blossom, scored 12 points for UAM (5-19, 2-16 GAC), as did Jordan Goforth. Harding improved to 17-7 and 13-5 with the win.
