Arkansas-Pine Bluff gets another shot at its first victory of the men’s basketball season tonight when it takes on host Hawaii in the Rainbow Classic. Tipoff at the Stan Sheriff Center on the Hawaii campus is set for 9 p.m. Central (5 p.m. Hawaii time).

UAPB (0-1) came close Friday night, losing 72-68 to Houston Baptist without center Daniel Broughton, who’s recovering from surgery on his injured knee. Broughton is not expected to play in the three-game classic.

Hawaii (1-0) got its season off to a good start late Friday with a 76-64 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore. Christian Standhardinger, a junior forward who transferred from Nebraska, led the way with 27 points, hitting 10 of 15 from the field, and getting seven rebounds.

The Golden Lions will also have to contend with another hot shooter in senior forward Hauns Brereton, who made 9 of 12 in scoring 24 points for the Warriors, and the rebounding of freshman forward Isaac Fotu, who collected 15 boards against UMES.

Senior center Terrell Kennedy hopes to follow up on his strong return to action for UAPB, when he had 19 points against Houston Baptist. Junior forward Davon Haynes needs a solid game to follow up his 13-point, 12-rebound performance.

UAPB will close the Classic on Monday night with an 8 p.m. tipoff against UMES.
