Today, Arkansas-Pine Bluff finds itself on familiar ground — the road.

The Golden Lions played their first two home basketball games of the season last Saturday and Monday and have to resume their season in the Houston area, where they’ll take on Texas Southern today in the city and play at Prairie View A&M on Monday. Today’s action at Texas Southern begins with the women’s game at 2 p.m., with the men’s game immediately following.

After Prairie View, UAPB will start a four-game homestand.

UAPB (2-16, 1-4 SWAC) will play with the feeling of having a conference victory under its belt for the first time, but the Lions have lost to three of the current top four teams in the SWAC — leader Mississippi Valley State, second-place Alabama State and fourth-place Southern. Beating the Tigers (5-12, 4-1), who share second with Alabama State, will give the Lions another breakthrough to boast.

But it could be a defensive battle today in Houston. While UAPB and Texas Southern rank seventh and eighth, respectively, in scoring offense in the conference (58.2-56.6), the Tigers lead the league in scoring defense, giving up 64.5 points per game. But the Lions are the SWAC leaders in field-goal percentages at 41.4 percent.
