Omar Atiq, MD, a Pine Bluff physician, was recently elected as president-elect of the Arkansas Medical Society. He will serve a one-year term before assuming the office of president at the next annual session in May 2013.

Omar Atiq, MD, a Pine Bluff physician, was recently elected as president-elect of the Arkansas Medical Society. He will serve a one-year term before assuming the office of president at the next annual session in May 2013.

Dr. Atiq, an oncologist at the Arkansas Cancer Institute, has been a member of AMS since 1991. Dr. Atiq will be in line to become president of AMS and will serve as a member of the Board of Trustees, Executive Committee and the House of Delegates. He will also assist the president in visiting the component and district societies, while becoming familiar with and preparing for the office of president.

Dr. Atiq has served on the Board of Trustees since 2003. He also serves as an at-large member on the Arkansas State Medical Board.

The Arkansas Medical Society is a voluntary professional association, established in 1875, representing more than 4,000 physicians and medical students as well as the patients and communities they serve.
