Wanda Bateman, owner of Margland Bed & Breakfast, is gearing up for this year’s, “Today’s THV Summer Cereal Drive.”
Bateman has participated in this fundraising and awareness event for the last 10 years.
“The cereal drive is a great contribution in our community and I look forward to this event each year,” Bateman said.
Each summer, Arkansas families have an increased need for food. More than 58 percent of Arkansas children enrolled in public school are dependent upon free or reduced priced meals. When school is out, so is the program and member organizations of the Arkansas Food Bank Network step in to fill the need.
Teams raise money and donate cereal throughout the state of Arkansas and cereal is then distributed to those in need. Last year’s efforts collected 212,873 pounds of cereal, with more than 24,000 boxes collected and distributed here in Jefferson County.
With a monetary donation, Bateman said she is able to buy cereal for only $.75 per box. The deadline for donations is July 1. For more information or to make a donation, contact Bateman at 870-536-6000.
