WOODLAWN — The Woodlawn baseball team won its season opener at home on Friday.

Steven Albright and J.P. Akins each hit a home run as the Bears beat Hazen, 8-3.

Albright had a three-run homer.

Akins hit a two-run shot. He also picked up the win after going four innings and allowing just one run on two hits with one walk and nine strikeouts.

Caleb Holloman went 2-for-3, while Jacob Richardson drove in a pair of runs.

Richardson also pitched the final three innings. He gave up two runs on two hits with a pair of walks and a strikeout.

Star City 2

NASHVILLE — Tournament host Nashville defeated the Star City baseball team 4-2 in the second round Friday night.

Star City (1-1) pitcher Gary Hill is tagged with the loss after lasting 5 2/3 innings, striking out five with four walks.

Bulldogs head coach Scott Johnson said he was very pleased with how his team performed.

"It was a fairly even game, Nashville just got the timely hits," Johnson said.

Star City had two runners on in the top of the seventh but were left stranded.

No one had multiple hits for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs will play in the third place game today at 2:45 p.m. Their conference schedule begins on Monday against Dumas beginning at 5 p.m.

De Queen 7 (Thurs.)

NASHVILLE — Star City defeated De Queen in the first round of the Nashville tournament on Thursday.

The Bulldogs broke the game open with nine runs in the fifth.

Blake Wynn is credited with the win after he lasted five innings, allowing two hits and four walks.

Star City fell behind 2-0 early but scored four runs in the second to take the lead, according to Johnson.

The Bulldogs led 13-4 when Wynn was pulled.
