SHERIDAN — Five Watson Chapel players scored in double figures, and the Wildcats needed overtime to bounce Pulaski Academy out of the River City Conference junior high basketball semifinals with a 69-62 victory Monday night.


The win puts Watson Chapel (16-5) in the championship game against Sylvan Hills or Little Rock Mills. That game will be played at 8:30 p.m. Thursday.


Simeon Blair led Watson Chapel with 22 points. Jonathan Harris and Griffin Penny each had 12, Michael Williams added 11 and Dewon Releford scored 10.


In eighth-grade action, Watson Chapel also reached the RCC final with a 39-34 win over White Hall. Ja’Kobi Jackson led the Wildcats with 12 points and C.J. Turner added 10.


The eighth-grade Wildcats will play Maumelle at 5:30 p.m. Thursday for the title.

SHERIDAN — The Lady Wildcats’ season ended at 13-7 following an RCC semifinal loss to the Lady Bruins.


Cayla Trotter and Jerica Bell each scored seven points to lead Watson Chapel.

MARIANNA — At the 2-4A District Tournament, the Lady Ricebirds kept their hopes for a regional tournament berth alive with a dominant victory despite Jayana Sanders’ 25 points for the Lady Cardinals (2-18).


Shacara Humbert had 21 points and Jayda Williams added 11 for Stuttgart (12-11), which will play third-seeded Clinton at 6:30 tonight. The winner of that game will qualify for next week’s 4A East Region Tournament.
