The Civitan Club recently elected several Pine Bluff residents to begin managing the club’s charitable projects in the area.

The Civitan Club recently elected several Pine Bluff residents to begin managing the club’s charitable projects in the area.


The new officers are David Dempsey, president; Rufus Dennis, president-elect 1; Angela Thayer, president elect 2; Priscilla Hurst, secretary; and Angela Thayer, treasurer. Their terms begain in October.


The Civitan Club helps others through a variety of community service projects including providing goods and services to ACCESS, CASA, The Salvation Army, Jenkins Center and residents. Civitan Club also sponsors the annual Christmas Parade and the annual TEAM party for Challenger League Baseball. One of the organization’s newest projects has been building a wheelchair ramp.


Civitan International is an organization of community service clubs with approximately 40,000 members across four continents. Each club works to help others and fulfill needs in their community, with special emphasis on helping people with developmental disabilities. Civitans continue this mission through fundraising for the UAB Civitan International Research Center, a world-class facility dedicated to researching developmental disabilities and other cognitive disorders.
