The Pine Bluff Art League will feature local art instructor Margie Spharler. The meeting will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Services Center, 211 W. Third Ave.
Spharler will demonstrate oil painting over acrylic. This technique, according to Spharler, gives the acrylic painting a glow that has long been sought by traditional artists. The oil also lends itself to better blending and more transparency, according to many well-known painters.
The demonstration is part of the agenda of an up-coming workshop sponsored by the Art League, according to president Vickie Coleman.
The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, in the Reynolds center and is open to the public. Aspiring oil painters will be able to start a new painting or work over an existing acrylic painting.
The cost of the workshop is $20 for members and $30 for non-members. For new oil painters, the league will provide paints and other supplies. They should bring a stretched canvas of any size.
The Oct. 2 meeting will feature a selection of two paintings which will be displayed at Simmons and Relyance banks for the month. This month’s artists showing at the banks are Gerry Delongchamp and Richard Davies.
Members are reminded to bring small paintings to the meeting or by Oct. 15, according to gallery chairman Delongchamp. A collection of small works will be featured in the gallery for the next quarter.
Light refreshments will be served and guests are always welcomed, according to Coleman. Details: Coleman, 879-3825, or Spharler, 879-2304.
