The Delta Network Food Bank distributed 10-pound bags of chicken to 402 families in the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County area. The hunger relief operation was held Sept. 17 at 11 Portea Drive at Pine Bluff.
Volunteers from various churches, community service organizations, and individuals helped conduct the event. The food was donated by the food bank as part of its ongoing hunger relief program. The food bank serves counties in the Arkansas Delta Region.
“This region has the highest level of poverty in the state of Arkansas,” a spokesman said in a news release. “The food bank is currently impacting 10 counties in the region and expects to expand its service area to include more counties. The food bank establishes pantries in underserved areas and supplies other existing pantries to provide food subsidy to help to eradicate hunger. We especially target low income families, veterans, the elderly and homeless.”
