The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments which include restaurants, bars, daycares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.


The following are the results of food safety inspections conducted by the Jefferson County Health Unit:


• Dotties on the Mezzanine, P.O. BOX 7009. Date of inspection Sept. 19. Chemicals should be stored away from single service items under counter (Not in compliance; corrected on site during inspection.) Sugar out of its original package should be labeled with common name on container (Not in compliance; corrected on site during inspection.) Clean utensils should not be stored in a cardboard box. Utensils should be stored where they are not exposed to sources of contamination (Not in compliance; corrected on site during inspection.)


• Wendy’s, 2909 W. 28th Ave. Date of inspection Sept. 20. Hands should be washed between changing tasks and touching clean equipment (Not in compliance; corrected on site during inspection; repeat violation.) Hand-washing sink should not be used for any other purpose than hand washing (Not in compliance; corrected on site during inspection.) Some cold-holding temperatures out of safe range — must be 41 degrees F or below (Not in compliance; corrected on site during inspection.) Need thermometers in all coolers holding TCS foods (Not in compliance.) Front side reach in cooler is leaking condensation — needs to be repaired (Not in compliance.) Trash cans containing food residue should be covered when not in continuous use (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Floors in kitchen need to be cleaned (Not in compliance.) Ceiling vents need to be cleaned (Not in compliance.) Vent hood needs to be cleaned (Not in compliance.)


• White Hall Community Center , 9801 Dollarway Road, White Hall. Date of inspection Sept. 22. No violations reported.


• Taylor Elementary School, 805 West St., White Hall. Date of inspection Sept. 22. Seasonings out of their original packaging in bulk containers need to be labeled with common name of food it contains (Not in compliance; corrected on site during inspection.) Blade on meat slicer needs to be sharpened (Not in compliance.) Need light in walk in freezer (Not in compliance.)


• Catering By Scott Ray - mobile, 9321 U.S. 270, White Hall. Date of inspection Sept. 23. No violations reported.


• Moma Keta’s Childcare II, 916 S. Cherry St. Date of inspection Sept. 26. Raw hamburger meat should not be stored above ready to eat foods (Not in compliance; corrected on site during inspection.)


• Moma Keta’s Childcare #2, 908 S. Cherry St. Date of inspection Sept. 26. Closed at time of inspection.


• Valero, 3000 E. Harding Ave. Date of inspection Sept. 27. Ice bagged by establishment should be labeled with store information on them (Not in compliance.) Food in containers out of its original package should be labeled with the common name of the food it contains (Not in compliance.) Ice scoop and tongs should be stored in a way to prevent them from contamination between use (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Three compartment sink needs cleaned (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Floors behind equipment and under counters need cleaned (Not in compliance; repeat violation.) Lights in dish-washing area should be shielded (Not in compliance; repeat violation.)
