The Pine Bluff Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. presented 21 outstanding young men at its 30th Annual Delta Distinguished Gentlemen Banquet on Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Pine Bluff Convention Center. The theme for the event — chaired by Stacy Howard, Nicolette Laurent, and Cassandra Smith — was “Making a Difference to Empower Males for Service and Leadership: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow”.

The goal of the Distinguished Gentlemen program is to empower the young men to reach their highest educational, social, and emotional potential, according to a news release. The gentlemen participated in a variety of events and public service activities during the 2016-2017 year, which culminated with the banquet.

The keynote speaker for the evening was Rev. Arnold E. Robertson Jr., former Gentleman, who is now the campus director at Quest School of Pine Bluff. The speaker was presented by Gentleman Jordan Sims. Entertainment for the event was provided by Zetoria Johnson.

The 2016-2017 Gentlemen are:

Vincent Abraham is the son of Christine Culclager and attends Pine Bluff High School. His date was Taylor Burnett. She is the daughter of Sonia and Jason Harris.

Jalen Bass is the son of James Bass and Kizzy Amos-Bass and attends Pine Bluff High School. His date was Taylor Johnson. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Scotty Johnson.

Cameron Blackwell is the son of Jacqueline Blackwell and Carl Blackwell and attends Dollarway High School. His date was Ashanti Cooper. She is the daughter of the late Clemertine Cooper and Mr. and Mrs. Orlando and Kim Love.

Devontae Brown is the son of Dennis Brown and Earlene Brown and attends Dollarway High School. His date was Ja’Kieria Davis. She is the daughter of Tracey Rabun and the late Jason Lawrence, Sr.

Michael Brunson Jr. is the son of Michael and Stacey Brunson and attends Pine Bluff High School. His date was Najallah Marie Johnson. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Dunn and Mr. Jamie Johnson.

Jaxson Davis is the son of Larna and Sam Atkinson and John Williams and attends White Hall High. His date was Jayla Jefferson. She is the daughter of Latasha Ferguson and Jeremy Jefferson.

Jalon Monroe Deshazier is the son of James and Debra Deshazier and attends Pine Bluff High School. His date was Ariana Jeanelle Lovett. She is the daughter of Travestine Angel Lovett.

JaQuan Dorsey is the son of Jerrod Dorsey and David and Tonya Sterling and attends Watson Chapel High School. His date was Destiny Qualls. She is the daughter of Lacy Thomas and Roy Tisdale.

Xavier Higgins is the son of Tameka Price and Eric Price and attends Watson Chapel High School. His date was Riana Robinson. She is the daughter of Chad and Jeanetta Terrell.

Demetris Johnson Jr. is the son of Ms. Takellia Gibson and Demetris Johnson, Sr. and attends Dollarway High School. His date was Desiree Furlow. She is the daughter of Sandra Furlow and Broderick Furlow, Sr.

Norman D. Lasley, Jr. is the son of Mrs. Josephine Cleveland and the late Norman Lasley, Sr., and attends Pine Bluff High. His date was Valansha Brasfield. She is the daughter of Jacqueline Roberson.

Brandon Little is the son of Randy Little, Sr. and Toni Little and attends Pine Bluff High School. His date was Kyra Brice. She is the daughter of Karla Brice.

Roderick Marks Jr. is the son of Talauna Marks and Roderick Marks, Sr. and attends White Hall High School. His date was Montanna Jackson. She is the daughter of Nicole Jackson.

Hauper-Kane Moorehead is the son of Kimberly Acker-Moorehead and John Moorehead and attends Watson Chapel High School. His date was Mya Ware. She is the daughter of Michael and Sharon Ware.

Malcolm Peoples is the son of Gregory and Marceinia Peoples and attends Watson Chapel High School. His date was Raven Franklin. She is the daughter of Elizabeth Franklin.

Jordan Sims is the son of Amanda Shepherd and Michael Sims and attends Dollarway High School. His date was Katlyne Butler. She is the daughter of Derrick and Andritha Butler.

Isaiah Solomon is the son of Deborah and Johnathan Solomon and attends Pine Bluff High School. His date was Abraya Humphrey. She is the daughter of Reecie Humphrey.

Brandon D. Thomas is the son of Kimberly Thomas and Dwight Thomas and attends Watson Chapel High School. His date was Brittney Curl. She is the daughter of Kevin Curl, Sr.

Rodney Tinzie is the son of Lakesha Hodges and Rodney Tinzie, Sr. and attends Dollarway High School. His date was Kayla Kirklin. She is the daughter of Becky Kirklin and Malcolm Howard.

Kylan Williams is the son of Laterika Johnson and attends Watson Chapel High School. His date was Chandler Wilson. She is the daughter of Dennis ad Uyolanda Wilson.

Micheal Williams is the son of Richard and Verna Williams and attends Watson Chapel High School. His date was Alexis Dendy. She is the daughter of Laquetta Thompson and Kenneth Thompson.

Jaxson Davis was crowned Mr. Distinguished Gentleman for 2016-2017. The first runner up was Malcolm Peoples and the second runner up was Isaiah Solomon. Malcolm Peoples received the Mr. Together award and the highest GPA award. Kylan Williams received the second place GPA award and Jordan Sims received the third place award.

In addition, the gentlemen received scholarship awards from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff ranging from $250 book scholarships to The Chancellor’s Full Ride Scholarship, which includes full tuition, fees, room and board and books up to $500 per semester.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a private, not-for-profit public service organization committed to the constructive development of its members and to public service efforts in local communities. The Pine Bluff Chapter has been serving the local community since Dec. 1, 1944. Ms. Kelly D. Bryant is the 2016-2018 Chapter President.
