On behalf of the Pine Bluff Commercial, I’d like to welcome all of the alumni from AM&N/UAPB back to our great city. Depending on how long it’s been since you last visited us, you may notice many changes taking place.

For one, our downtown is looking better and better by the day. Main Street is open, new businesses are sprouting up, and derelict buildings are coming down. There is a beautiful new UAPB digital sign board at the intersection of University Avenue and the Martha Mitchell Expressway to welcome people to campus.

And, most exciting of all since your last visit, we now have a plan for our city’s future. Like many of you, I am a Pine Bluff native. The Go Forward Pine Bluff tax initiative is designed to rejuvenate our community into a prosperous, safe and progressive city in which to live and raise our children.

Like any plan, it’s not perfect. But it’s a blueprint for change. Many conversations are now happening across Pine Bluff about the future of this great city. We’d love to hear your thoughts about what’s happening in Pine Bluff. Drop us a line at pbcnews@pbcommercial.com

Although I am from Pine Bluff, I did not attend UAPB. My alma mater is Henderson State University in Arkadelphia. However, I feel like UAPB is an adopted alma mater for me because of the great strength it gives to our city. The people who make up the university are always so warm and inviting toward me and my staff.

Moving forward, UAPB will be a vital part of our city’s success, and I am proud each time I drive by the campus and see it looking better and brighter with each passing year. UAPB alumni, you have every reason to raise your heads high this homecoming weekend and be proud of your university and the city it calls home.

I want each of you to know that there is no bigger supporter of UAPB than the Pine Bluff Commercial. Your success is our success. And we must all succeed in order to make our city shine bright once again. Happy homecoming, and Go Lions Go!
