Despite slight increases in commercial burglaries, robberies and simple assaults in September, overall reported crime in Pine Bluff dropped 6.26 percent compared to September 2016.


There were 434 crimes reported to police in September, 29 less than were reported in September 2016.


Through the first nine months of 2017, the city has seen a 30.83 percent decline in reported crime, dropping from 5,206 reported incidents in 2016 to 3,601 so far this year.


In terms of crimes against property, there were 66 residential burglaries reported last month compared to 103 in September 2016. Commercial burglaries however doubled, going from 6 to 12.


For the first three-quarters of the year, 517 residential burglaries were reported compared to 918 for the same period in 2016, a drop of 401. A total of 86 commercial burglaries have been reported through the first nine months of 2017 compared to 157 for the same time period in 2016, or 71 less.


Reported thefts decreased from 133 in September 2016 to 115 last month, and for the year, 1,105 thefts have been reported or 551 less than for the same period in 2016. (1,566).


Motor vehicle thefts increased last month with 33 reported incidents compared to 28 in September 2016.


In terms of crimes against persons, there were 34 aggravated assaults reported last month, one less than in September 2016 and for the year, there have been 338 aggravated assaults compared to 463 for the same period in 2016, a decline of 125.


Simple assaults increased from 146 in September 2016 to 160 last month and for the year, there have been 1,224 simple assaults reported, 415 less than for the same period in 2016.


Ten robberies were reported last month, two more than in September 2016, and rapes and attempted rapes dropped from four in September 2016 to three last month.


Through the first nine months of 2017, 109 robberies have been reported, 25 less than during the same period in 2016 (134). There have been 40 rapes reported during the first three-quarters of this year, 20 less than in the same period in 2016.


One murder reported in September brought the city’s total for the year to 20, double the number that were reported all of last year.
