The after-school program at TOPPS (Targeting Our People’s Priorities with Service) Inc. will participate in the annual Lights On After-school event, from 3:30-6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, at TOPPS Big Rec, 1000 Townsend Drive.

The effort is a nationwide celebration of after-school programs. The public is invited to attend.

TOPPS 21stCCLC Program will highlight TOPPS after-school program activities for participating children. Children ages 8-18 will may take part in math games, science activities, story reading, craft activities painting pumpkins, music, sign language and other activities.

TOPPS has invited partners in the community to participate including Jefferson County 4H, Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services Department, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff STEM program, and Ambassadors for Christ.

Invited guests also include Pine Bluff Mayor Washington, Pine Bluff City Council members, U.S. Rep. Bruce Westerman, state Rep. Vivian Flowers and state Rep. Ken Ferguson.

“We will be one of more than 8,000 sites across the nation sending the message that after school is key to children’s success, and that we must keep the lights on and doors open after school,” according to a news release. “Parents, media, employers, neighbors, school officials and others have been invited to help us rally support for safe, stimulating after-school programs.”
