Kathy Pierce, director of the Jefferson Regional Medical Center School of Nursing, is retiring after 36 years. She spent nine years as the director. From 2–3:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, a celebration will be held at the School of Nursing in honor of Pierce’s career.

“Kathy has been an inspiration to countless young nurses, and JRMC is proud to have been her employer of choice for the past 36 years,” a spokesman said in a news release.

Michelle Newton, a 31-year employee of JRMC, is replacing Pierce as the School of Nursing director. Newton was previously an administrative director in JRMC Nursing. She is now working with Pierce preparing to be the full-time director.

“JRMC is asking those who have been influenced by Kathy to send in a card recording their best wishes and fond memories for her. Please call 870-541-7554 and request the official card, which will be mailed to you. Then, mail the card back before Nov. 2 or simply drop it off at the school prior to the event on Nov. 9,” according to the release.
