Watson Chapel won the 5A South Conference title on Friday night, beating Hot Springs Lakeside 21-7. The Wildcats rushed for over 250 yards as a team and got good production from seven different ball carriers to pull out the road win.

The Wildcats spoiled the Rams' senior night festivities with the win, as Omar Allen rushed for 109 yards on 19 carries. Sophomore quarterback Devin Curry was 5 of 10 passing for 66 yards and a touchdown to keep the defense of the Rams honest.

Curry got the 'Cats on the board in the second quarter on a five-yard pass to Berkarion Black. Keandre Kendal added the point-after. After forcing the Rams to punt for the third time to open the first half, Watson Chapel (7-3, 6-0 5A South) would drive 70 yards to extend the lead to 13-0 on a four-yard Allen run. The PAT was blocked by the Rams.

Lakeside (5-4, 5-1 5A South) would get its only score of the night on the next drive aided by a 55-yard run by Rams senior tailback Dupree Swanson. Swanson would take it in on a four-yard run. Phillip Gayle added the extra point and the 'Cats would lead 13-7 at the half.

Chapel would score on its second drive of the third quarter on a 53-yard run by Dejuan Harris. Allen tacked on the two-point conversion for a 21-7 Wildcats lead with 6:19 to go in the third. Harris would finish the night with 88 yards rushing for the 'Cats.

The defense would take over for the remainder of the game to keep the Rams at bay. Lakeside would threaten in the fourth quarter, but an interception in the end zone by Javeon Jackson would quash the Rams’ drive.

Watson Chapel will host Camden Fairview in the regular season finale this Friday night on senior night at Wildcat Stadium. Fairview (4-5, 4-2 5A South) defeated Hot Springs 35-0 on Friday night and is playing for a spot in the playoffs. The game can be heard locally on 98.1, the Hog.
