The Consolidated St. Marion Baptist District Association’s Winter Board will convene at Union Hopewell Baptist Church, 1121 S. Persimmon St., at 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28.
Kenneth Harris Jr., Ed.D, chairman of the Arkansas Baptist College Board of Trustees, will be the featured speaker.
The Rev. Henry Parker, director of music at the college, and the college ensemble will provide the music, according to a news release.
The winter board meeting is a kick off to the association’s 150th anniversary culminating in August.
Harris is a member of the Greater Pleasant Hill Baptist Church at Arkadelphia. A native of Fordyce, he received degrees from Arkansas AM&N College (now the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff), Henderson State University and Texas A &M at Commerce (formerly East Texas State University).
“Having previously retired from Henderson State as professor and chair of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction; he is now an adjunct professor in the department,” according to the release.
Harris and his wife, Pamela, have one daughter and one granddaughter.
“Having been honored for more than 50 years of servant leadership in church music, he is excited to be a part of the sesquicentennial of the Consolidated District,” according to the release.
The Rev. Larry C. Battles is moderator of the district. The association’s executive committee is scheduled to meet at 5 p.m. Sunday, prior to the winter board meeting, according to a spokesman.
