James Matthews Elementary School, led by Principal Leondra Savage, was adopted by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and Aramark in honor of Samaritan’s Feet National Day of Service Shoe Distribution Program.

Samaritan’s Feet is a non-profit organization that provides new shoes and socks to children around the world.

The organization recently held a program at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Each child who participated had their feet washed by representatives of Samaritan’s Feet and received new shoes and socks.

“This act of humility and service provided the opportunity for a connection between the person serving and the child being served,” a spokesman said in a news release. “Small acts of kindness such as these, is what helps to change lives. This local event is one of 27 that Samaritan’s Feet is doing around the country in January surrounding the National Day of Service and Martin Luther King Jr. Day Holiday.”
