University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff alumnus Lorenzo Jones IV will be the guest speaker for the annual Founders Sunrise Service. The free, public event will be held at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, April 29, in the Cross-Phipps auditorium of Caldwell Hall.

A native of Pine Bluff, Jones is the son of Jacqueline Jones and the late Rev. Lorenzo R. Jones III, according to a news release.

His father became pastor of New St. Hurricane Missionary Baptist Church in 1988, where the younger Jones spent years as youth superintendent of Sunday School, youth usher, assistant minister of music, and deacon.

Jones graduated with honors from Watson Chapel High School in 1997. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology in 2002, graduating Cum Laude from UAPB. He was elected senior class president of his high school class and Student Government Association president from 2000-2001. He is also a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.

Professionally, he became a sales professional in April 2002 with GlaxoSmithKline (pharmaceuticals.) He was promoted to sales trainer in December 2005 and relocated to Denver, Colo., according to the release.

In Denver, he joined Greater St. John Baptist Church. In September, 2007, he was promoted to district sales manager at the age of 28. He relocated to El Paso, Texas, where he met his wife, Kennasha (Roberson) Jones. They have two daughters, Anya, 19, and Kerrington, 3. The two relocated to Colleyville, Texas, in 2012, according to the release.

He joined Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where he’s a member of the choir and praise team, led the Men of No Excuses, and became a part of the finance team and deacon’s ministry.

After accepting the call to preach in 2014, he continues to serve at Greater Friendship by leading their Christian Education department, according to the release.
