Jefferson County Judge Booker Clemons has named Joyce A. Campbell as the new election coordinator, with the appointment being made retroactive to Monday.
“Coordinator Campbell will assist in complying with standard occupational procedures for elections in Jefferson County,” Clemons said in a news release. “We are looking forward for county election staff and election commission committee working together in following state laws and conducting fair elections.”
Campbell is currently senior pastor at Greater Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church in Pine Bluff, a position she has served in since November 2017. Prior to that, she was senior pastor at St. Andrew A.M.E. Church in Little Rock between October 2015 and October 2017.
Her previous work experience included vice-president and Senior Manager Community Development Officer for Capital One Bank in Dallas, advisory for minority affairs for the Arkansas Governor from September 2004 to January 2007, Assistant Vice-President Community Development Outreach Director for Hibernia National Bank in Texarkana, Texas, and as a consultant for Be Covered Texas Affordable Health Care Outreach Education.
Campbell has a Masters of Divinity from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Texas A & M University in Texarkana, Texas and a Bachelor of Science, Business, Psychology from East Tesas State University in Texarkana, Texas.
“It’s an outstanding selection,” Election Commission Secretary Stuart “Stu” Soffer said. “Although she has no direct election experience she understands technology and I look forward to working with her.”
Commission Chairman Mike Adam was not as glowing in his praise, saying that “Judge Clemons has been easy to work with, so I think the commission will give her a chance.”
A call was placed to Ted Davis, the third member of the election commission, but his voice mailbox was full and unable to accept messages.
